I’ve read about writers who just sit down and start writing, so I thought that’s what I’d try for NaNoWriMo. Although you’re allowed to research and prepare beforehand, I’ve done nothing other than decide on a genre – light romantic thriller.
Just deciding on that seemed to get the creative juices flowing. Already there are some parameters: romance novels typically have a female lead character for example, but I can say I’d honestly not given it any conscious thought before settling down to a blank screen this morning and typing the title “NaNoWriMo Novel 2013”.
Is it working? Um … yes! So far. After about two-and-half hours, I’m 35 words ahead of my 1,667 words-per-day target and – most importantly – have some idea of where I’m heading tomorrow.
So, a mere 48,298 words to go!
