Dan Poynter (1938–2015) was an American author, consultant, publisher, and parachute designer(!) who wrote more than 130 books, over 800 articles, and is perhaps best known for his 1979 book The Self-Publishing Manual. He was also an expert sky-diver and invented a number of parachutes.
