As a kid, Asimov got his start reading science fiction magazines – commonly called “pulps” because of the cheap wood pulp paper they were printed on. His father thought they were junk, but young Asimov persuaded him they must be educational because they had “science” in the title. He went on to write more than 500 books, and not just fiction. In fact, his books have been published in nine of the ten major categories in the Dewey Decimal Classification system. (The only category his missed out on was category 100; philosophy and psychology.)
